10.06.10: ISPO
Last month 5 of our Prosthetic and Orthotic staff attended the ISPO World Congress (International society for Prosthetics and Orthotics) in Leipzig, Germany. They were part of a record number of 2,600 participants from over 100 countries to attend the 4 day event. The ORTHOPADIE+REHA-TECHNIK trade fair, held in parallel to the conference, attracted over 20,000 visitors, with exhibits from prosthetic and orthotic companies worldwide. Centre Information
The Bristol branch of opcare is based in the Disablement Services Centre at Southmead Hospital. It covers an area including Gloucestershire, Avon, West Wiltshire and North Somerset, with 2,000 upper and lower limb amputees. A satellite clinic is run every Wednesday at the Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary.
The team at Southmead consists of 6 Prosthetists and 9 Prosthetic Technicians (including 1 Clinical Support Technician), as well as 5 Orthotists. It is supported by an NHS multi-disciplinary team consisting of a Centre Prosthetist, Doctor, Podiatrist, Nurse, specialised Amputee Physiotherapists, Senior Occupational Therapist and Counsellor.
