opcare is a private company that provides prosthetic and orthotic services to the NHS in the UK. The prosthetics service in the NHS is normally provided by private companies, as the service itself pre-dates the creation of the NHS in 1948. opcare was founded in 1989, and now has over 300 employees in the UK and Ireland.
Our services involve the design, manufacture and fitting of artificial limbs to over 25% of NHS users of artificial limbs - more than 12,000 people. In our orthotics service, our orthotists prescribe 'orthotic devices' - orthopaedic appliances used to support, align, prevent, or correct deformities or to improve the function of movable parts of the body. We currently provide services to over 50,000 users of orthotics.
Over the last 20 years we have grown from a small operation in Oxfordshire to become one of the largest providers in the country, with centres in Bath, Belfast, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Coventry, Exeter, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford and Roehampton.
Our Head Office is based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, where our central resource team works to provide innovative IT and customer focused solutions for our NHS partners. opcare holds the ISO 13485:2003 standard which is specific for medical services, and the Investors in People standard.
